Spring found at local greenhouse during snow storm

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Even though spring doesn't look like it will be coming any time soon, a few people decided to surround themselves with signs of the season.

Chippewa Valley Growers in Eau Claire opened its greenhouse doors today for the first day of its season.

Although it was snowing all day Sunday, the owners of the greenhouse say they still wanted to open so that people could have an opportunity to leave their homes and enjoy a touch of spring, even if it’s inside.

“They've been cooped up the last couple of days, it gives them a chance to come out and see some of the pretty flowers and plants and see what's new for the year,” says John Lentz, Chippewa Valley Growers retail manager.

“Anything to get out of the snow and see some beautiful flowers,” says Terri Larson, a shopper at the greenhouse.

“Tired of the snow, can't believe we're having a snow storm like this in mid-April,” adds Sue Englesby, another shopper.

Many shoppers at Chippewa Valley Growers today say the snow is pushing back their gardening schedule, but they'll be ready for the sunshine when it arrives.
