BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. (WEAU)-- The woman killed in an apartment fire in Black River Falls has been identified.
The fire department says she is Kathryn Montana, 31.
The fire broke out early Sunday at an apartment building at 1256 Harrison Street. Firefighters have not said the cause of the fire but say it was not intentionally set.
Crews say the apartment did not have a sprinkler system in it, and Chief Steven Schreiber, with the Black River Falls Fire Department, says the extent of the damage initially made it unclear to know if there was a smoke detector in the burned-out apartment. However, he confirmed every other apartment in the building had one.
Montana's cause of death is pending toxicology and autopsy results, which could take several weeks.
