A new youth nutrition literacy and culinary education program is coming to the area.

The Community Table is launching its first Meal in a Jar youth nutrition program. Wednesday students at Roosevelt Elementary School got a chance to participate. The program looks to provide kids with healthy food options.

The nutrition series teaches kids how to doctor up their favorite foods with healthy options. "We are teaching kids how to do an advanced meal prep so they can essentially leave here having made an advanced mac and cheese preparation...we're also doing a cooking demo so we can show the kids how to make the meal when they are at home with their families," said Michelle Koehn, executive director, The Community Table.

Organizers had kids use ingredients typically available at food pantries or in their after school lunches.

They hope to continue to grow the program in the future.
