New ski hill underway at Mount Washington in Eau Claire
The Flying Eagles Ski Club in Eau Claire is in the process of building a new hill at its Mount Washington ski jump complex.
The 55 meter hill is about half the size of the Silvermine Ski Hill and will cost about $800,000.
Dan Mattoon with the ski club says it will be a training facility for junior jumpers. Mattoon says the money was raised through endowments and various fundraisers. He says construction started over the summer...and is expected to be complete next summer.
Mattoon says Mount Washington will then become one of the best training facilities in the country for the sport of ski jumping.
"This is going to help to get our project that we've been really under the last 12 years of re-designing all of these hills at Mount Washington. And so, as you can imagine it’s been a long process and to get to that end point is going to be pretty exciting," said Mattoon.
