North High School counselor honored with Golden Apple Award

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU)-- For the second straight year, WEAU 13 News is partnering with the Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation to honor one educator from all 20 public schools in the district with a Golden Apple Award.

Wednesday night, counselor Dave Reidt was honored by the staff and students at Eau Claire North High School. His co-workers say Dave has one of the most important positions in the school. Someone who helps students get through the growing pains and at times the frustrations that they encounter.

"I love the kids, that's why all of us go into it, hopefully we do and we do believe in kids and just seeing the progress that they make throughout the years is rewarding and I guess for educators, that's the bonus that we receive at the end of the day," says Reidt.

Fellow Eau Claire North Counselor Maureen Doughty adds, "He's the kind of guy who is the number one advocate of students but at the same time he's not afraid to tell them the truth and some things that might be hard for them to hear. And his delivery is always spot on. Everyone leaves his office happy and appreciative for the conversations that they've had with him."

Mr. Reidt and North High School will receive a one-thousand dollar grant from the Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation and Dave will get to use 500 of those dollars to use in the counseling department.
