Chippewa County leaders met Wednesday to discuss possibly ending the wheel tax earlier than planned.

However, the chair of the county's highway commission says they decided it would not be fiscally responsible.

The $10 wheel tax was approved for Chippewa County in 2014 to make up for a deficit in the county's winter maintenance and snow removal account.

The county administrator told us earlier this month that since we had a mild winter, the county has nearly balanced its budget for snow removal.

The commission will revisit the issue next month.
