EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- When we think of local heroes, we usually think of police officers and firefighters, but this week another kind of hero is being recognized; that's because it is crossing guard week. Officers with the Eau Claire Police Department, as well as AAA employees thanked area crossing guards with coffee and treats Wednesday afternoon.

Joy Rudy, with AAA, says crossing guards help ensure children's safety.

"It makes their job worthwhile too and they just love working with the kids and keeping them safe. If we can give them a little bit of recognition that's what matters too,” said Rudy.

Rudy says they made around 25 stops to give crossing guards gifts around the Eau Claire area.
