Prairie Ridge teacher honored with Golden Apple Award

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- For the second straight year, WEAU 13 News is partnering with the Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation to honor one educator from all 20 public schools in the district with a Golden Apple Award.

Thursday, as we continue our look at the top educators in the Eau Claire Area School District, we check in with the four-year-olds at Prairie Ridge Early Learning Center.

Prairie Ridge Early Learning Center Special Education Coordinator Krista Johnson presented Head Start teacher Kari Holloway with her Golden Apple Award.

Holloway says there's never a dull moment when dealing with four-year-olds, but adds she loves the interaction between them.

"It's amazing what 4-year-old can retain here at Prairie Ridge or any 4K center; they work very hard on all their academics as well as building relationships with other kids. We are a school family here, we like to have fun in our room, be silly, act like 4-year olds and just enjoy our classroom time,” said Holloway.

"Classrooms where teachers are engaged and interested, then the kids are too. This is such a fun age to work with and I would say we have many, many teachers that are deserving of this award, but we're thrilled that Kari won,” said Johnson.

Holloway and Prairie Ridge Early Learning Center will receive a $1,000 grant from the Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation. Holloway will get to use $500 to use in her classroom.
