Protesters, supporters make voices heard outside Pence event

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Just down the road from Precision Pipeline LLC. in Eau Claire, where a Republican fundraiser featuring Vice President Mike Pence was held, a handful of protesters and supporters were making their voices heard.

A visit to the Chippewa Valley from the nation’s second in command prompted mixed reviews from the local public Wednesday.

“Our whole message is, Walker and Pence are in Wisconsin today, this is their record on healthcare and it's inexcusable,” says Alex Japko, a spokesman, Democratic Party of Wisconsin.

“I want to show Governor Walker and Mike Pence that there are people that back him out here and appreciate what they're doing,” explains Patrick Perrenoud, who supports the reelection of Governor Scott Walker.

The Democratic party of Wisconsin says the big issue facing the state right now is protecting healthcare.

“2.4 million Wisconsinites have a preexisting condition and the fact is, the governor and the vice president of the White House are trying to push plans that would threaten their healthcare,” says Japko.

Perrinoud added he's backing Walkers’ efforts for the state like fighting the opioid crisis.

“I just believe in what Donald Trump and Mike Pence have done for our nation,” says Perrenoud. “I do think this drug problem really needs to be addressed and I think that Scott Walker will address it.”

In the end, it'll be in the voters hand to decide the state's highest office come November.
