Rail coalition meets with private company interested in project involvement

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU)-- It's been decades in the making, and now more than ever, community members are pushing to get a passenger rail line from Eau Claire to the Twin Cities.

Members of the West Central Rail Coalition met with Corridor Capital at CVTC. Corridor Capital is one of the private companies interested in being involved in the project, by providing equipment and management services.

The meeting was meant to present the successes of passenger rail initiatives from around the nation, and what having one here in western Wisconsin would mean.

“The surprising part for all of us is that we haven't run into a fatal flaw yet. We've had all positive outcomes with all of our studies. We continue to move forward until we run into a brick wall, or until we start running a train,” says Dave Christianson, Executive Director of the West Central Rail Coalition.

“The proposed railway that would connect Eau Claire to the Twin Cities would make stops in Menomonie, Baldwin, Hudson, and Stillwater on the way to the cities.

A full trip from Eau Claire to the cities would take about 90 minutes and cost $32.
