Rep. Ron Kind weighs in on emergency wall funding declaration by Pres. Trump

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) During Rep. Ron Kind's stop in the Chippewa Valley Tuesday to discuss legislation for craft breweries, he spoke on President Trump's national emergency declaration for wall funding.

Rep. Kind says President Trump is over-stepping his authority. He adds that Trump should continue working with Congress on comprehensive immigration reform.

Several states are challenging the declaration in a lawsuit, when WEAU asked if Wisconsin would jump on board, he said, "I think so."

“More importantly this is the first time in the nation's history that a sitting president is actively defying the will of congress and stealing money from other categories for a different purpose because he wants to do it and I think that's wrong fundamentally,” says Rep. Kind. “I also think it's unconstitutional given the co-equal branches of government that should be working together rather than trying to bypass each other.”

Rep. Kind added with lawsuits and court tie-ups, the battle over this wall funding could be dragged out for a long time.

WEAU reached out to Representative Sean Duffy's’ office for comment but have not heard back yet.
