Republican candidates hold meet and greet with community members

OSSEO, Wis. (WEAU) -- The Trempealeau County Republican Party invited community members to a meet and greet event Friday evening.

The goal was to give attendees a chance to get to know candidates running for public office. The event was held at cabin in the pines recreation center in Osseo. Republican candidates hoping to capture votes shook hands and spoke with community members. From the U.S. Senate and Assembly races, to Congress, and local county sheriff’s office, a variety of candidates were in attendance.

Organizers say it’s important to give local voters the opportunity to put names to faces. With candidates running for local, state, and federal offices in attendance...the event did just that.

"If you've met the people, you've seen them face to face, you know what they look like and you've actually heard them face to face talk about the various issues you know. It makes a big difference when it comes to you're reading some literature oh yeah I met that person. It gives them a much better view of what that person is standing for and they can make up their mind with a lot more information that just reading a piece of literature," said David Anderson, local Republican Party Chair.

The Trempealeau County Republican Party says while this isn't the first event of this kind they've held, it was one of the most successful. Organizers expect to host more before election season approaches.
