EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Community members gathered to celebrate the opening of a local fire station with a ribbon cutting.
The ceremony for Eau Claire Fire Station 10 took place Friday morning on Malden Avenue.
Fire Chief Chris Bell says it's a beautiful station with a lot more room.
He says the new spot will also improve emergency response times.
The new station is the largest one in Eau Claire and comes with many modern renovations.
“We needed the space, we need to store equipment, we need to have things ready, accessible, so the size of the station, the improvement of enhancement for firefighter safety”, says Bell. “You'll notice in here we have every bay has a Plimovent system, which sucks the diesel exhaust out of the vehicles and emits it outside so we aren't breathing that.”
Chief Bell says in the next two to six months he hopes a new owner will take over the old fire station building at the intersection of Hastings Way and Birch Street.
