EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU)-- Eau Claire's Royal Credit Union offices were closed Monday as team members participated in a new corporate event known as Community Give Back Day.

Nearly 600 Royal Credit Union team members rolled up their sleeves to help out in more than a dozen different communities.

About 60 projects were completed, including the assembly of more than 500 totes filled with items for families in transitional housing and nearly 400 backpacks for homeless individuals. The totes and packs were then delivered to organizations that will distribute them.

"It's just really rewarding to see what we're doing and then to hear the story of how it will help people and how many, even in our Eau Claire community, are homeless is just eye opening", said Vicki Hoehn, Vice President, Community Engagement.

This is the inaugural event to be hosted as part of Columbus Day.
