Dear Parents and Guardians,

On Thursday, a student reported a comment making a threat of harm against the school for Friday. While details surrounding the situation suggest this is a copycat of last week’s incident, administration and law enforcement are working together to use due diligence to fully investigate the comment and assess any safety and security compromises.

Comments such as the one made in this incident, even when made in jest, evoke fear and leave staff, students, parents, and the community feeling unsettled.

Additional administration will be present Friday and counselors will be available to support any student who needs it. Law enforcement presence in and near the high school will also be increased. We want our students, parents, and community to be assured that we are there to support the high school students so that they feel safe at school.
While school will be in session on Friday, we respect your role as parents to decide what you are most comfortable with in terms of your child’s attendance. If you choose to keep your child home, please call the school attendance line to report the absence.

Last Thursday, staff at the high school addressed the serious nature of such comments and the importance of telling a trusted adult when they have worries about school. We appreciate your assistance as parents in supporting and reinforcing this message with your child as well. The safety of our students is a top priority. Similarly, both the school and legal consequences of engaging in such behavior are severe.

We are proud that one of our students came forward immediately when they became aware of the threatening comment. This type of communication and reporting is key in keeping our schools safe. Thank you to you all for your continued partnership and support with our schools.

My best,
Heidi Eliopoulos
