UPDATE: Removal of portable toilets from parks on hold

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- An update on a story WEAU reported earlier as budget cuts were forcing the City of Eau Claire to remove portable toilets out of city parks by the end of the week.

Thursday, January 10, Eau Claire City Council Acting President Andrew Werthmann says the portable restrooms will remain open for now.
He says the council will introduce a plan at its next meeting to fund the toilets.

Werthmann says the money will come from an amendment to the city's operating budget.

"The natural question is why do we have something more permanent it's more cost-effective in the short run to still do it this way, but I think as we're as we're looking at what's important to people where they want to see restrooms that we ought to be looking at longer-term solution. We heard loud and clear from folks and want to be responsive to that and make sure that all of them stay in place," said Werthmann.

Werthmann says if the council rejects the amendment, the toilets would be removed shortly after that.
