EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- The man shot by law enforcement after a multi-county chase has been sentenced to prison.
Reese Diesterhaft, 24, was sentenced to seven years of prison and five years of extended supervision in Dunn County Court on Tuesday afternoon.
Diesterhaft was shot in August after a chase that started in Dunn County and ended in western Eau Claire County. Deputies say the incident ended when Diesterhaft stopped his vehicle and stepped out with a weapon. That's when law enforcement fired at Diesterhaft and wounded him. He was then flown to an area hospital. According to the criminal complaint, Diesterhaft was hoping to get shot by police and was "on the run" from South Dakota. That's where he was sentenced to ten years in prison for a burglary.
Both deputies who shot at Diesterhaft were cleared of any wrong-doing on Monday by the Eau Claire County District Attorney.
