The woman accused of stabbing a man to death in Dunn County reportedly told investigators during questioning, “I just started stabbing anything I could, everywhere.”

Ezra McCandless, formerly known as Monica Karlen, appeared in Dunn County Court Friday where she was charged with first degree intentional homicide.

According to a criminal complaint, McCandless and 24-year-old Alexander Woodworth were driving when the vehicle they were in got stuck on a muddy road in the Town of Spring Brook in Dunn County on March 22. McCandless initially told investigators Woodworth attacked her and carved the word “Boy” in her arm. She said that’s when she grabbed the knife and started stabbing Woodworth “anywhere and everywhere”. She told investigators, “I just started stabbing anything I could, everywhere.” When questioned more about her own arm, she admitted to investigators that she put the word on her arm in the car after she stabbed Woodworth.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office said Woodworth was stabbed 16 times.

McCandless was found when she walked up to a home in the area with dried blood around her mouth and no shoes on. Witnesses say she was covered in mud and her clothes were torn.

She is due back in court later this month.
