EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) Area students honored Veterans Friday afternoon. DeLong Middle School in Eau Claire held a ceremony.

During the event students discussed their Veterans quilt project. Students say they interviewed veterans to create the commemorative quilt squares to honor the men and women.

They say it was a powerful experience looking out at all the veterans during Friday’s ceremony.

Eighth grader Katherine Rentzepis says, “It's really nice, I really like it, it's kind of emotional because these people are fighting for our freedom and kind of gave up their own freedom for this, but it was nice.”

The 8th grade band and choir also performed at the ceremony.
