Wintry mess snarls traffic Wednesday

By  |

A quick moving clipper system will have a major impact on driving conditions today. Periods of heavy snow will be moving through the area, dramatically reducing visibility at times. Expect near white out conditions at moments out on the roads and drive for changing conditions.

In addition to the snow, we could see some periods of sleet and freezing rain leading to very messy travel with icy roads, sidewalks and parking lots. Use caution through the afternoon whether walking or driving.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Barron, Chippewa, Dunn, Eau Claire, Polk, Price, Rusk, Sawyer, St. Croix and Washburn counties until 3 PM. And, in Taylor, Clark, and points east the advisory remains valid until 6 PM.

Road conditions will quickly be changing, check out this view from our HSHS SkyCam network this morning.

Snowfall totals will mainly be in the 1-2" range, but higher totals will be possible in our northern and eastern counties. We have gotten just a few reports in so far, mainly in our eastern counties:

5" West of Hawkins [Price]
2.3" Westboro [Taylor]
0.4" Eau Claire [Eau Claire]
0.3" Medford [Taylor]
0.1" Warrens [Monroe]
