World War I memorial dedicated in La Crosse

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) -- A dedication for a World War I memorial at Veterans Freedom park in La Crosse took place this morning.

Many city officials and veterans were in attendance as the memorial was dedicated.

Coming up on the centennial of World War I, members of the community knew that they to do something to honor those who fought, even though they are no longer here to see it happen.

"All of the sudden they're on sacred ground, they're somewhere else things like that. i think that's why these are important. I think one day history classes are going to come through here and get some information and learn about it, makes it a little more real," said Veteran Louie Ferris.

The plan now is to start working on a Vietnam memorial as well.
