Eau Claire North headed to State Hockey

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) In a thrilling double-overtime contest, Sam Stange scored the game winner for Eau Claire North as they defeated Hayward 3-2. The Huskies will head to state for the first time since 2006.

The game was scoreless for the first two period, but in the third North got on the board first with a Sam Stange goal and built up the lead as they added a Zach Urdahl goal a few minutes later.

But Hayward would rally late as Blake Loder scored to cut the lead down to 2-1. In the final minute, the Hurricanes would pull their goalie for the extra attacker and Hunter Strapon would get the equalizer to send the game into overtime.

Tyler Schreiter for North and Gavin Abric of Hayward were tough in goal for both overtime periods until Sam Stange took one final shot to send North to the state tournament .

The Huskies will in action Thursday down in Madison in quarterfinal action.
