EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- North High School announced today that Kendra Pagel has been hired as Head Girls’ Volleyball Coach.
Kendra Pagel is a 2005 Wausau West High School graduate where she played for Cathy Newton in the Wisconsin Valley Conference while earning All-Conference recognition and is still named in the record books for total points and blocks. She played collegiate volleyball for the University of Wisconsin-Stout and has over 10 years of volleyball coaching experience.
Pagel spent 4 years as Head Volleyball Coach, from 2012-2015, at Regis High School in Eau Claire. The Ramblers were conference champions in 2012 and 2013, finished in the sectional finals 3 of the 4 seasons, including two trips to the Division 3 State Championships. In 2013, Pagel and the Ramblers brought the first WIAA Gold Ball into the Regis trophy case for the sport of volleyball. Her stint at Regis consisted of a 127-31 record. Pagel has coached six years of Eau Claire Air Club Volleyball and served as an Assistant Coach for Perris Cooley at Eau Claire North High School the past 3 seasons.
Pagel replaces Cooley, who coached the Huskies for the past 26 seasons. Pagel commented, “I would like to thank Coach Cooley for the time and commitment he has dedicated to the North Program. He has become one of my biggest mentors and it has been an honor to coach alongside him the past 3 seasons. The history of this program and the quality of student-athletes that have played under the direction of Perris Cooley is what attracted me to Eau Claire North”.
Pagel commented, “I’m grateful for the NHS administrative team and everyone involved in the interview process. I am truly humbled to be trusted to take over a program that has a legacy of success. There is tremendous opportunity for volleyball at North to continue to grow and flourish. I want to be a part of that growth and share my enthusiasm for the sport with the surrounding community.”
“I very much believe in the fundamentals and techniques of the game,” Pagel said. “I believe in focusing on the process and the ability to keep improving skills. My goals for these student-athletes include being great volleyball players and amazing leaders. I want them to excel in the classroom and learn skills of resiliency, accountability, teamwork, and good sportsmanship that they can take into their future endeavors.”
Pagel concluded, “I am eager to implement this philosophy with the Eau Claire North Volleyball program. I look forward to discussions with coaching staff, student-athletes, parents, and supporters from our youth programs through the high school level. I plan to continue to build the program from the elementary level up through camps, instructional practices, and club seasons so they understand what North Volleyball is trying to achieve and what the standards and goals are that I have set as a Head Coach.”
Joe Eisenhuth, NHS Assistant Principal & Athletic Director, commented, “We are very pleased to have Kendra Pagel as our Head Volleyball Coach. The plan she has developed and her approach to working with student athletes have been successful in her previous positions. We look forward to seeing Coach Pagel use those experiences in continuing to develop and strengthen the North High School Volleyball Program."
Pagel currently works as a High School Counselor in the Eau Claire School District.
