Experts Say Melting Snow Won't Lead to Flooding

Even with warm temperatures melting the snow, a hydrologist doesn’t think flooding should be a problem on the upper Mississippi this spring.

Dan Luna at the North Central River Forecast Center in the Twin Cities says the snowmelt could cause some localized flooding in rivers that feed the Mississippi this week.

Luna says the Kickapoo River in Vernon and Crawford Counties could spill over its banks by mid-month.

He says flooding could be a problem on the Mississippi in Northern Illinois and Central Iowa where more snow has fallen.
