Power Outage

Some voters had a bit of a surprise this morning. About 2,100 customers in Eau Claire were without power, including the polling site at Bethesda Lutheran.

The power there was out for about a half hour. Workers had to grab flashlights and re-direct voters to other areas of the building. Xcel Energy says a squirrel got into the substation, and that's what caused the outage.

The power caused the electronic voting machine to shut down, but votes were stored in an emergency bin and were re-fed into the machine later, once the power returned.
