Crews respond to a fire at Bush Brothers and Company

AUGUSTA, Wis. (WEAU) Crews responded to a fire at Bush Brothers and Company in Augusta early Wednesday evening.

The Augusta- Bridge Creek Fire Chief tells us it was confined to the roof of the building. Flames never penetrated inside. It took crews 15 minutes to get the fire under control.

Steve Harzeski, Senior Vice President of Operations for Bush Brothers, tells WEAU 13 News the fire started above the canning section of the factory, in a 20 by 20 foot area of the roof.

Canning operations will be put on hold until workers clean up, but Harzeski doesn't expect that process to take long. He says Bush is still assessing the damage, but says it will ensure there are no food or employee safety issues before starting back up.

There's no word yet on how the fire started. There were people inside at the time of the fire, but everyone was evacuated safely.

Firefighters from Augusta, Fall Creek, and Fairchild Fire Departments all assisted.
