EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Secretary was in town Monday, giving money to some area companies so they can improve their worker training programs.

Secretary Reggie Newson visited two Western Wisconsin manufacturers that received grant awards, including Plank Enterprises in Eau Claire.

In its first round, the department awarded grants totaling more than $2.5 million after the Wisconsin Fast Forward Worker Training Program was passed last year.

"Talent development human capital is one of the most important things that we can do as a state to make sure employers have the talent that they need to fill the jobs as well as make sure workers have the skills and competencies for the employers so that we can hire them," explains Newson.

The department is currently reviewing applications for grants for up to $7.5 million.
