ALTOONA, Wis. (WEAU) -- A house in Altoona is a total loss, after a massive fire Monday afternoon.
Flames were seen shooting out of the attic, and you could smell smoke from miles away.
According to the Altoona Fire Department, crews from several area departments responded to the single family home on the 600-block of Harriet Street just after 1:00 p.m.
Firefighters first worked inside until conditions were no longer safe, but they stayed on the scene for about four hours until the flames were out.
Crews knocked down the north and south sides of the home to prevent it from collapsing onto a neighboring home.
We're told one man, the homeowner, is displaced as a result and is being helped by the American Red Cross.
Investigators will be back on the scene Tuesday to figure out what caused it.
