Man arrested after going through the ice on a snowmobile

(WEAU) - A Chetek man was arrested after deputies say he was skipping his snowmobile on the lake and went through the ice.

Steven Zwiefelhofer, 44, was taken into custody on suspicion of operating a snowmobile under the influence of alcohol. The Barron County Sheriff's Department says on around 6:15 p.m. Thursday night, it got a call of a person that went through the ice in Chetek.

The Chetek ambulance, fire, first responders and life link helicopter responded to the scene.

Deputies say Zwiefelhofer refused to get out of the water but was eventually rescued and taken to jail.
