TOWN OF GREENWOOD, Wis. (WEAU) -- A Hillsboro man is dead, tossed from an Amish buggy in Vernon County.

It happened just before 9 a.m. Thursday. According to the Sheriff's Office, 19-year-old Brandon Stanek of Hillsboro was in a company work truck, pulling a trailer, on County EE, West of County Q in the Town of Greenwood. He tried to pass a slow-moving horse and buggy, but saw a truck coming East right toward him and pulled back into the lane.

Investigators say Stanek applied the brakes, but his truck and trailer skidded out of control, rear-ending the buggy and sending it into the ditch.

Andy Troyer, 41, also of Hillsboro was operating the buggy. He was ejected during the crash and rushed to a local hospital where he passed away.

The horse survived with only minor injuries. The impact of the crash detached it from the buggy. Stanek reported no injuries.

The crash is still under investigation.
