EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Woodman's in Altoona is now open for business.
The store opened around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Store Manager Adam Campbell said the store was still getting meat products in as of Wednesday afternoon, but that it's better to open the store than to "turn carloads of people away."
"Apparently, one of the radio stations this morning said that we were going to be open at noon today, and like, that was news to all of us," Campbell said.
"We don't normally give a specific time that we open, it just, whenever Mr. Woodman comes into the store and things are good enough to open with still some work to do. Most of our customers realize that it's still a work in progress."
On Tuesday, Woodman's store officials announced that the grocery store, which is in the River Prairie Development near the U.S. 53/River Prairie Drive interchange, would open on Thursday morning. The store's Facebook page had said the store was originally set to open by Sept. 1. Altoona's City Administrator, Mike Golat, said Tuesday that the grocery store and Woodman's gas station are both expected to add $15,000,000 in tax base.
