TOWNSHIP OF WASHINGTON, Wis (PRESS RELEASE FROM TOWNSHIP FIRE DEPARTMENT)-- Township Fire Department responded to a report of a house explosion that also resulted in a structure fire in the Township of Washington on Hickory Road just north of the Village of Brackett at 11:06am Sunday morning.

The two story farmhouse was completely involved in fire when firefighters arrived. Home owner was at home at the time of the explosion. Mr. Strauch is the only occupant of the home and reported to fire officials that he smelt a strong odor of LP in the house earlier in the day. Strauch shut the LP gas supply to the house off at the tank and opened doors to the residence in hopes of dispersing the gas. Strauch was in the house when the gas ignited. All four walls blew outwards and the structure then collapsed on Strauch who was able to crawl out of the burning structure. Strauch was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital.

Extent of his injuries is unknown but reportedly non life threatening. Township Fire units were assisted by Fall Creek Fire and Altoona Fire with manpower. All units cleared the scene approximately 4.5 hours later.

The home and two vehicles next to the home are considered to be a total loss.
