EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU)- As the joint finance committee debates funding for the UW-System, local Republicans are weighing in on another budget item that impacts the Chippewa Valley.

Representative Kathy Bernier and Senator Terry Moulton talked about state funding for the Confluence Friday afternoon.

They say they are pleased to see that $15-million for the performing arts portion of the project added back into the state budget earlier this week by the Joint Finance Committee.

"There were lots of phone calls trying to sell this to the Joint Finance members. I was on the phone continually with the members describing the importance of this facility," Sen. Moulton said.

"This in the end is a very big project and a huge money saver for tax payers," Rep. Bernier added.

Both politicians say they don't foresee funding for the project being pulled from the state budget before it is signed by Governor Walker in July.
