BALSAM LAKE, Wis. (POLK COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE NEWS RELEASE) -- Cynthia A. Aviles died from her injuries while being treated at Regions Hospital in St Paul MN. Aviles died on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at about 10:30 AM and is the fifth fatal victim of motor vehicle crashes in Polk County in 2015.
BALSAM LAKE, Wis. (WEAU) -- A Ladysmith woman was seriously hurt in a head-on crash Tuesday morning.

It happened around 7 a.m. Tuesday on U.S. Highway 63 near Clayton. The Polk County Sheriff's Office said Cynthia Aviles, 19, was driving a car south on highway 63 when she hit a truck that was headed north. Aviles was taken to a Minnesota hospital with severe injuries. The sheriff's office said she was reportedly in critical condition after a couple of surgeries late Tuesday afternoon.

The truck driver, Benjamin Omann, 31, of Baldwin, ended up with minor injuries. There were no passengers in either vehicle. Deputies are investigating the crash.
