Eau Claire native Jake McCabe scores first NHL goal

Sunrise, FL (WEAU)- Buffalo Sabres defensmen Jake McCabe scored his first NHL goal on Thursday night in a 3-2 loss to the Florida Panthers.

Trailing 2-0 in the second period, McCabe tallied his first goal when Marcus Foligno found the Eau Claire native in front of the net for the score.

McCabe was recalled to the Sabres on Oct.12th, which also happened to be his birthday.

McCabe played his high school hockey at Eau Claire Memorial, before going to play college hockey at WIsconsin. While with the Badgers he was also a member of the Team USA Junior National team that won gold at the World Championships in 2013.

McCabe was drafted by Buffalo in the 2nd round of the 2012 NHL draft and spent last season with the Rochester Americans of the AHL.
