Person dies after suffering medical emergency at the La Crosse County Jail

LA CROSSE COUNTY, Wis. (WEAU) - The La Crosse County Sheriff’s Office is announcing the death of someone that suffered a medical emergency at the La Crosse County Jail.

According to a press release from the La Crosse County Sheriff’s Office, on March 27, 2026, a person was brought to the La Crosse County Jail from a medical facility. This person was placed on watch that continued throughout their incarceration.

The press release says on March 28, 2026, the person suffered a significant medical emergency. Jail staff, nursing staff, first responders and Tri-State responded. Life-saving measures were attempted on the person but were not successful.

The official cause of death is pending a final autopsy report, according to the press release.
