Silver Screen Spotlight: Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” hits theaters

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) - One of the most anticipated movies of the year is here.

Filmmaker Christopher Nolan, the man behind “Inception,” “The Dark Knight,” and “Oppenheimer,” is back, this time adapting a classic tale. In “The Odyssey,” a man must find his way home before his family and his kingdom choose a new leader. Nolan’s film is based on Homer’s “Odyssey,” which dates back to the 8th century B.C. The movie features a star-studded cast full of Hollywood A-listers, including Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Zendaya, Tom Holland, and Robert Pattinson. Rated R, “The Odyssey” is screening at Micon Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, and the Oakwood Mall.

Olivia Wilde is back in the director’s chair following up 2022’s “Don’t Worry Darling” with A24’s “The Invite.” The movie stars Wilde and Seth Rogen as a couple whose relationship is navigating rocky seas. It sounds like the perfect time to host another lavish couple played by Penélope Cruz and Edward Norton for dinner. Rated R, “The Invite” is playing in Chippewa Falls and at the Oakwood Mall.

We’re over halfway through Micon’s summer kids’ series. Playing Monday and Tuesday at Micon Oakwood Mall is “The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants.” In Chippewa Falls is “Gabby’s Dollhouse,” screening Wednesday and Thursday. A reminder: showtimes are at 10 a.m., tickets are just $2, and there are snack deals too.

The Micon Downtown Cinema is temporarily closed due to smoke damage.
