Silver Screen Spotlight: “The Dog Stars,” “Coyote vs. Acme,” and more open at Micon Cinemas

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) - The box office is not slowing down as summer comes to a close.

Starring Jacob Elordi, Margaret Qualley, and Josh Brolin, “The Dog Stars” is the week’s first new release. In a post-war America, a small group fights for survival. “The Dog Stars” is based on a novel of the same name by author Peter Heller. From director Ridley Scott, “The Dog Stars” is playing at Micon Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls.

“Coyote vs. Acme” is finally here after infamously being shelved back in 2023 by Warner Bros. Discovery. The film features characters from “Looney Tunes,” most notably Wile E. Coyote, who is trying to sue Acme Corporation with the help of a lawyer played by Will Forte. Also starring John Cena and Lana Condor (“To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before”), “Coyote vs. Acme” is screening at Micon Chippewa Falls and the Oakwood Mall.

Breakout star of “The Holdovers” Dominic Sessa stars as Anthony Bourdain in A24’s “Tony.” The film chronicles the early life of writer, chef, and TV star Anthony Bourdain. It’s directed by Matt Johnson, whom you may know from “Nirvana the Band the Show the Movie.” Rated R, “Tony” is playing at Micon Eau Claire.

For horror fans, there’s a new entry in the budding mascot horror subgenre. Buddy, voiced by Keegan-Michael Key, is a Barney-like kids’ TV host who goes a bit off the rails. Rated R, “Buddy” is playing exclusively at Micon Chippewa Falls.

You can take a trip to the wizarding world of Harry Potter this week at Micon Cinemas. The Harry Potter movies are headed back to theaters to celebrate 25 years of the franchise on the big screen. All eight movies will screen at Micon Oakwood Mall, and “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” will play in Chippewa Falls as well.

Tickets are on sale now for “Canoe Dig It?”, coming to Micon Oakwood Mall on Monday, September 14. It’s a mockumentary about the world of freestyle canoeing, a real-life sport. I’ve actually seen the movie—it’s great—and will post my full interview with director and star Samuel Dunning next week.

The Micon Downtown Cinema is temporarily closed due to smoke damage.
