1 person dead following car vs. semi crash in Sawyer County

SAWYER COUNTY, Wis. (WEAU) - One person is dead following a car vs. semi crash in Sawyer County.

According to a press release from the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office, on Oct. 22, 2026, at 6:52 a.m., authorities received a report of a two-vehicle car vs. semi crash on US Highway 63 at the entrance of Select Excavating in the Town of Hayward.

Authorities responded to the scene and learned that a semi-tractor pulling a loaded log trailer being operated by 65-year-old William Anderson of Glidden, Wis. was entering the north bound lane of Highway 63 from Select Excavating. A car being operated by 50-year-old Jason Laehn of Springbrook, Wis. was traveling in the left south lane and struck the triple axels of the semi.

Laehn suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Anderson was not reported to be hurt.

The crash is under investigation.
