Gov. Evers grants 206 more pardons, total tops 2,400
MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers granted another round of pardons Friday, bringing his total number of pardons while in office up to 2,443.
Evers said he was glad to offer 206 pardons to help people make amends and turn their life around.
“Here in Wisconsin, we believe in the power of forgiveness, redemption, and opportunity,” Evers said. “Folks who put in the work deserve the chance to continue growing, doing good, and building a better life.”
A pardon is an official act of forgiveness, which restores the rights someone loses if they are convicted of a felony. This includes the right to serve on a jury, hold public office and hold certain professional licenses.
A pardon does not expunge court records.
The Wisconsin Constitution grants the governor with the power to pardon those convicted of a crime.
