We’re waking up to sunny skies and temperatures in the single digits above and below zero. High pressure can be found over the upper-Midwest, and will continue to drift southward throughout the day. This will allow for a small warm up with the return of southeasterly winds. Temperatures will remain in the low 20s. Clouds will build back in behind the departing feature and out ahead of a mid to low level wave that’ll track across the state overnight. This could produce a few snow showers over the area, but a stout layer of dry air looks to also be in place. If anything, a dusting will be possible.

High pressure departs Saturday, allowing for winds to shift and temperatures to warm on Sunday.(weau)

Ridging over the Plains will continue to slide eastbound on Sunday. That, coupled with more breezy southeasterly winds, will boost temperatures back into the 30s Sunday and into the week ahead. A warm front will boost temperatures near 40 degrees on Monday, with persistent cloud cover. We’re still looking at a chance for a wintry mix on Tuesday as a shortwave tracks through on upper-level zonal flow. With more zonal flow over our area, this will keep temperatures cooler than some of our other locations. There are some indications of our next precipitation chance on Thursday, but there’s a lot of uncertainty still with a wave that’ll push through and another lobe of surface high pressure that’ll be over the Midwest. What does look likely is temperatures remaining in the 30’s to end the work week.
