May chill lingers another day or two before seasonable temperatures return

A broad area of high pressure will remain to our west through the rest of the day, keeping our weather dry while mostly cloudy skies dominate overall. The afternoon will again be hard pressed to reach 50 in the Chippewa Valley, and just a few degrees warmer to the south. Breezes will also return from the west-northwest at 8-15 mph. This should be the coolest of the days moving forward, with an upper trough slowly moving out to the east. A weak disturbance will be dropping down in that flow tonight, keeping a few extra clouds around and helping to limit another night of freezing temperatures.

By tomorrow, the high will begin to drift over the Midwest, gradually allowing winds to shift to the west-southwest, bringing the start of some warming. Clouds will be mixed with sunshine as we rise through the upper 50s.

By Friday a weak wave of low pressure will be sliding to our southwest and we look to scrape by dry with a partly sunny sky along with the return of average temperatures. Highs look to climb back into the mid and upper 60s. Another front will then be dropping down from Canada into Saturday, returning some extra clouds along with the potential for a few showers. Right now much of the day looks dry, but we will keep an eye on this feature and have updates as we get closer.

While the weekend will start with seasonable temperatures, it does appear once the front slides south, we again will be cooling some on Mother’s Day. The weather will be dry with highs close to 60. A couple of chilly mornings will again be possible into early next week before we climb back towards 70 by next Tuesday.
