Court documents: 18-year-old’s BAC nearly 3 times the legal limit after fatal high-speed crash

HEWITT, Texas (KWTX/Gray News) - The blood alcohol content of an 18-year-old was three times the legal limit after he crashed and killed another driver in Texas, court documents allege.

Cash Lee Stebner, 18, was arrested Thursday on a charge of intoxication manslaughter in connection with the June 13 crash that killed the driver of a Chevrolet pickup.

The collision happened at the intersection of South Hewitt Drive and Enterprise Boulevard in Hewitt.

Stebner was reportedly driving a Mazda passenger car when he collided with the pickup, the documents state.

Stebner and the driver of the pickup were taken to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital in Waco. The pickup driver later died there.

The court documents allege Stebner was driving in between 88 and 97 mph at “the start of this crash.”

Police allege that three hours after his arrest, Stebner’s BAC was 2.9 times the legal limit.

“Cash Stebner is 18 and so the law states there can be no detectable amount of alcohol in his body,” police wrote in the documents.

The crash reconstruction also determined “intoxication was a contributing factor to the crash, and led to the death of the victim,” the document further alleges.

Stebner was released from the McLennan County Jail after posting an $80,000 bond.
