Warming up with drier weather these next few days

After several hours of rain and freezing rain, we’re beginning to wind down. We’re seeing the bulk of precipitation now east of WI-13, with mainly light rain showers persisting as temperatures everywhere have warmed into the 30s. Main roads this morning that were covered in a glaze of ice have now melted, looking more wet at this time. We’re still seeing some reduction in visibility, as fog has stuck around. This is thanks to the combination of light winds, snowpack, and a lot of low-level moisture. A few rain showers will be possible this afternoon as highs warm into the mid 30s. Some more fog will be possible later tonight with lows dropping down into the 20s. With temperatures dropping below freezing, any water on the roads could freeze again.

The weather will be drier with even a chance to see a bit of sunshine return by later Wednesday. Areas that see more sunshine will potentially warm up into the 40s, with most locations in the Chippewa Valley expected to be in the mid to upper 30s. Thursday looks to also be warm, before a cold front will approach from the west. The upper-level pattern is a milder one and we will see temperatures climb several degrees above average through the end of the week. By Friday we will be keeping an eye on the next system sliding by to our south, bringing rain and wet snow across Southern Wisconsin. Another low is looking to be to our south on Saturday. In the upper levels, troughing will follow behind this feature, potentially returning snow chances moving into the weekend. A brief shot of more average air will slide in behind the trough, leaving us with daytime highs in the upper to mid 20s exiting the weekend and moving into the new workweek. As previously mentioned, this shot of cooler air looks to be brief, as temperatures will climb close to 40 yet again entering into the start of the new week.
