Another round of snow Sunday before frigid cold arrives into the new week
We’re waking up to gloomy skies and a few flurries this morning, but activity should begin to come to an end by 10am. We’re looking to get a small break from the wintry precipitation, with clouds continuing throughout our day. Winds will stay breezy out of the northwest, allowing for wind chill values to fall into the single digits. Daytime highs will be noticeably colder, in the teens.

We remain in an active track as northwesterly flow continues in the upper-levels, and another clipper system will pass to our north over Lake Superior on Sunday. This will bring in our next chance of snow during the first half of Sunday. Amounts will be minimal, with a trace up to potentially two inches scattered across Western Wisconsin. Of course, changes will be made as the latest data comes in.

Behind the departing low and an arctic cold front, frigid conditions arrive for the workweek. Winds are expected to pick up as temperatures drop. Daytime highs on Monday likely won’t get above zero, and wind chill values could fall down to -20 to even -35 degrees below zero. We have gone ahead with a First Alert Weather Day for Monday due to the arctic blast expected.

The coldest wind chills will be experienced late Sunday night and into Monday morning. We’ll see some improvements Tuesday and Wednesday, but temperatures will be running nearly 10-15 degrees below normal. There is still a lot of disagreement on another system Tuesday night and into Wednesday that could bring our next snow chance. Surface high pressure will influence us on Thursday before temperatures dip again into the weekend.
