Chilly and breezy conditions to linger through Sunday

We’re waking up to cloud cover and even a few flurries in some spots as troughing continues to exit on this Sunday morning. Northwesterly winds will remain active as high pressure approaches the international border and low pressure remains stuck over the Great Lakes, allowing for a strong pressure gradient. Winds will be sustained between 10-15 mph and could gust up to 25 to 30 mph at times. This will keep wind chill values near or below zero the entire day. With the high continuing to sail near the area, today will be the coldest of the next few days. Daytime highs will claw the upper teens to low 20s, with radiational cooling likely to occur later tonight.

A few flurries will be possible in the wake of a shortwave trough on Sunday.(weau)

The decrease in cloud cover and lighter winds will send temperatures dropping into the single digits across the board. Troughing will finally exit as longwave ridging enters from The Plains into Monday. Light winds will start off from the northwest before shifting to the south in the wake of the surface high pushing eastbound. This will allow for a slight improvement in temperatures to begin the week, as they start out in the low to mid 20s. Ridging will continue into Tuesday, but another wave and surface low pressure system will bring our next chance for some snow late Tuesday and into Wednesday night. This system will also allow for winds to kick up again. Most guidance is in agreement on the low passing to our north, keeping the best chances of snow restricted to areas along/north of I-94. There doesn’t look to be a lot of moisture associated with this system. A cold front late Tuesday and early Wednesday will send temperatures spiraling into the mid to upper 20s with mostly cloudy skies as upper-level ridging flattens out. Another wave is forecast to move through Wednesday and into Thursday, but there remains uncertainty of exact placement. What does look more definitive is this feature targeting areas near and south of I-90. The highest snow chance will be shunted over these locations. We’ll get another brief break from the colder air on Friday as another round of warmer air works in from the south and southwest. Daytime highs could climb into the 40s before a push of cold air arrives into the weekend.
