More temperature swings through these final days of February

High pressure remains in place to the west with mostly sunny skies on tap this afternoon. Winds will begin to lighten up as our pressure gradient overhead starts to relax. As for temperatures, we’ll be staying ten or so degrees below average in the upper teens and low to mid-20s. The high will then exit to the east, allowing the next warm front to track eastward from the Northern Plains. Some extra clouds will be returning tonight and into tomorrow, with even the chance for a few stray snow showers or flurries, but they look to remain a bit more to the north and east at this time. After a cold start in the single digits, tomorrow will eventually rise back into the mid 30s.

We will then be in southwest flow into Friday, bringing a steady warm up to end the work week. Friday will come with a partly to mostly sunny sky, breezy winds and temperatures that will rise through the 40s. As the next Canadian high pressure system slides southeastward, some forcing on the southern side will make for a cloudier start to the weekend, along with a small chance for snow showers. Despite any snow potential, it will be colder again as we wrap up February and begin meteorological spring on Sunday. Highs both days will be in the lower 20s. Temperatures then look to rise back to at least average early next week, as another low pressure system approaches from the west.
