A late-February round of accumulating snow into the start of the weekend
We’re waking up to some clouds cover this morning, out ahead of some snow later today. The National Weather Service has put out a Winter Weather Advisory for those of us along and south of I-94 until 9pm today. The advisory area is where there is higher confidence in accumulating snow.

Snow will begin from west to east and move in between 7 and 10am, though the latest guidance is showing arrival could be closer for the end of that time frame. With temperatures down into the teens, this snow will be more fluffy/powdery in nature, and the highest impacts could be felt from the late morning and into the early afternoon. Winds thankfully won’t be too big of a factor, but you’ll still need to take some precautions if traveling as roads will be slippery and there will be some reduced visibility. Snow will continue before eventually wrapping up into the evening. There were still some questions last night with how far snow would make it, given that guidance had started to shift southward again. As a result, we’ve made some minor changes to our snowfall map. Eau Claire may end up being on the northern fringe of the expected snowfall, with locations south of I-94 seeing/feeling the greatest impacts. As mentioned in multiple shows, there will be a sharp cutoff/gradient in snowfall totals the further north you go. A look at what to expect can be found below. This forecast is extremely fluid with the amount of disagreement/back and forth between guidance.

Our wave will get out of the area tonight, and a much colder night will be in store for the overnight as skies clear. Many locations will be down into the single digits.

High pressure will take over for Sunday, still holding us down in the 20s with light north/northeast winds, though we’ll see plenty of sunshine to welcome in meteorological spring. Upper-level flow will turn more zonal, allowing for temperatures to warm into the 30s and 40s. Another shortwave could touch off a few rain showers on Tuesday before another low-pressure system over the upper-Midwest brings the return of rain/snow showers into Friday.
