Another spring warming trend to conclude the weekend

A small line of showers have developed with a passing wave this morning, pushing to the southeast. Even though we have a layer of dry air at the surface, precipitation has been heavy enough to pass through. Expect minor impacts. Our warm front continues to pass through, and temperatures have warmed into the upper 30s and low 40s so far this morning. Breezy southwesterly winds continue into the final day of the weekend, helping us to warm up. Temperatures will hug the border of the upper 50s and low 60s. While it was looking sunnier for today over the past few days, more clouds than thought may hover around. Cloud cover will play a big factor in temperatures for today.

Warmer air advects into the area on Sunday, but clouds could limit how much the thermometer rises.(weau)

Southwesterly flow will continue before a dry cold front drops down out of the northwest into early Monday morning, allowing for slightly cooler temperatures in the upper 50s. A secondary cold front arrives later in the evening and could touch off a few snow showers Monday night and into Tuesday. Minor impacts are expected with this first round of precipitation. Clouds stick around for Tuesday behind the early snow chance as our first cold front stalls over Iowa and Northern Illinois. At the surface, this will allow for another low to make its way up from the south, riding the stationary boundary. In the upper levels, a closed-off low over the four corners region will interject with a trough over the upper Mississippi River Valley. These factors will produce another round of rain initially Tuesday evening as the low slides over Illinois. There is still some uncertainty on how far north the low will track, but rain transitioning over to snow into Wednesday is looking more likely than it did 24 hours ago. This would be our next best chance at some snow accumulation. Temperatures will warm into the 40s Thursday and Friday with a warm front before another low pressure system drags a cold front through. At this time, it seems precipitation will be north of the area on Friday.
